Top Thing on Which to Bet

Are You Waiting to Get Picked?

I was recently talking with a friend considering buying an existing business and didn’t really know how to go about it or what to consider as he moved ahead.  I jumped into help by sending him the materials, lists, and steps he would need, but as I signed off my email message I said:

“I wholeheartedly believe that betting on yourself

is one of the best bets you can make.”

The world is waiting for you to make a bet on yourself.

I hope you enjoy this “Mathews Mindset” update.

What does picking yourself look like?

If you . . .

Constantly affirm that you are capable of something, you'll start to believe it is true and you will be motivated to try.

If you . . .

Repeatedly assure yourself that you are worthy of something, you'll believe it deeply and you will reach out for it.

If you . . .

Keep reminding yourself that you can grow and change, you'll embrace it as a fact and you will seek opportunities to improve.

Picking Yourself

It's a common mindset to wait for a signal of approval or an invitation, perhaps from a company, a leader in your field, or an influential figure on social media, before you start on something new.

Once you move beyond this belief and realize that no external affirmation is coming—like understanding there's no magical start button—then you can truly begin to act.

If you're just waiting for a response, be prepared for a potentially lengthy wait.

Once you see that there are issues out there just waiting to be addressed, and you acknowledge that you already have every tool and every bit of permission you need, then you'll find abundant opportunities to make a difference.

No one is going to choose you. It’s up to you to choose yourself.

The hard truth: If you’re not willing to bet on yourself, don’t expect other people to bet on you.

I wholeheartedly believe that betting on yourself is one of the best bets you can make.

I believe in you to choose yourself.

Overcoming

Only you can cross the point of no return, but by betting on yourself you can more readily overcome resistance including:

  • People who dismiss your goals or advise you to lower your expectations.

  • Minor habits or actions you engage in that hinder your progress.

  • Less-than-ideal settings that you tolerate for too long.

  • Self-imposed constraints that stop you from achieving what you're capable of.

You Have Everything You Need

You will never regret the day you bet on yourself.

You've got to bet on yourself if you want it bad enough.

And the even better news is that you have everything you need to answer your own invitation to greatness and achievement.

Once you have it inventoried, it is time to reach out and grab on to your future.

Nothing is without its challenges. But challenges bring great rewards.

Not only could you see financial gains, but you'll also have opportunities for personal growth and leadership development, which will prepare you for the next adventures of life ahead.

The highest stakes — and the most significant rewards — arise when we follow our genuine passion. For this, self-belief is essential. You must acknowledge the strength that resides within you.

The Opportunity of a Lifetime

“The opportunity of a lifetime is to pick yourself. Quit waiting to get picked; quit waiting for someone to give you permission; quit waiting for someone to say you are officially qualified… and pick yourself.”

-Seth Godin

Own Your Power

"All power that anyone can possibly use is within, waiting to be made visible, first by recognizing it, then affirming it as ours."-Charles F. Haanel
