Raise Your Healthy Deserve Level as You Enter 2023
2023 Will Be Your Year
If you are getting this email, you are about to have a great year. You are investing in yourself. You are committed to learning and growing. You get to be the editor of your life by adding, subtracting, and rearranging everything. What’s even more interesting is that your growth is contagious. It will be seen be your friends and family and they will change with you.
You will be the oxygen in the air for others to grow alongside you.
It is truly an exciting time to transform. Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!
Eminence, Courage, and Mastery
Eminence is about creating value at the highest levels. Correspondingly, you change as a result of the process to drive your value to the highest levels. To move past plateaus of life, business, and other realms you need to find a new path for yourself. That’s what requires courage. You will need to head into the unknown and away from the safety and security of what you have previously accomplished. You will be betting on yourself again and again and that’s a courageous bet.
To understand this bet, we can turn to the business world. Here we use revenue/money as a measure of value creation and scale of the value delivered. You can apply another impact measure to the progression of your eminence, but the personal and professional performance path will be similar. As you look at what is required to achieve greater mastery at each step, estimate the number of times you will misstep and fail and sometimes spectacularly. This will give you a fuller appreciation for the courage needed.
Getting to your first $1MM: Requires mastery of self.
Getting to the next $10MM: Requires a new mastery of self and additionally a mastery of leading others at scale.
Getting from $10MM to $100MM: Requires a new mastery of self, a new mastery of leading others, and now mastery of the world.
Getting beyond $100MM to Leaving a Legacy: Requires new mastery of all of the above and added mastery of human & generational change.
There will be steps forward and steps backward, but each is a step on a new path paved with your courage. A coach helps you take that next step even though you may not be able to see the path itself. In the end leaving a lasting institution, ethical will, and/or a legacy behind for future generations is the hallmark of a life fully lived but few have the courage to get there. We all can easily plateau, stagnate, and lose the courage to take another step, but we know we have more life to live or another courageous path to find. Your reflections on necessary levels of failure demonstrates the courage to be embraced and how courage avoided becomes the enemy of the great.
Many people can get through the first step and in fact 10% of all businesses in the US get to a million dollars in annualized revenue. 1% of US businesses can get to the second step. But less than 0.1% can get to the third. And the ultimate step is even harder. This ratio would be similar on other scales including those who set daunting world records in climbing mountains, pro-basketball players turned business moguls, modern day Catholic sainthood, etc. Each journey is different and deeply personal. All can lead to eminence with courage.
Life is incredibly short, but we can complete the full journey of life on whatever metric we choose: impact, reach, business success, and so much more.
Let’s each be an ambassador for the audacious.
You can be greater than what you believed was possible.
Make a Living. Build a Life. Create a Legacy. And Leave Life a Legend.
Holiday Group Activity Suggestion: 10 Word Toast
Here’s a cool activity for the holidays as we enter 2023. At your next gathering with family and/or friends go around the room and have each person give a 10 word toast that they make up on the spot. It will create great moments of gratitude, joy, humor, love, vulnerability, and so much more. Here’s mine: “Want what you want by Raising Your Healthy Deserve Level.”

Write it Down: Clear writing means clear thinking . . .
"Rewriting is the key to improved thinking. It demands a real openmindedness and objectivity. It demands a willingness to cull verbiage so that ideas stand out clearly. And it demands a willingness to meet logical contradictions head on and trace them to the premises that have created them. In short, it forces a writer to get up his courage and expose his thinking process to his own intelligence."
